How Can We Help?

Rehoming

There are many reasons that you may be thinking of rehoming your parrot, and we know that the decision is not an easy one. Our team can recommend alternative solutions to help you decide if rehoming is the right step for you.

Once you contact us and we determine that your parrot is eligible to be surrendered, our rehoming agent will make pick-up arrangements with you. Surrendered birds are cared for by foster volunteers (all of whom must be members) while they await adoption. Fosters will care for and observe surrendered birds for about a week, during which their health, personality, and behaviour are assessed and included in a notice for adoption.

Only club members are sent adoption notices and eligible to adopt birds through the Parrot Club of Manitoba.

Rehoming is a service we offer free of charge: we do not offer any monetary compensation to you for surrendering your bird or their belongings, nor do we charge club members to adopt birds.

The Parrot Club of Manitoba graciously accepts donations of any denomination. As a non profit organization, donations contribute to the funding of club activities, education initiatives, and reimburse fosters for any additional expenses incurred (such as medical bills, food expenses, etc.).

Displays

Parrot displays are a long held tradition at the Parrot Club of Manitoba. Displays can take place any time of the year, and generally we can go anywhere within a 100 kilometre radius outside of Winnipeg.

Displays not only fun, but they are also educational! Club members (usually between 3-10) arrive with their birds and demonstrate all the quirks, charms, and behaviours that parrots are capable of. We cater to all age groups, and have visited daycares, nursing homes, clubs, pet expos, or nature destinations such as Oak Hammock Marsh. We require an enclosed, indoor space, but please note that parrots are taken out of their cage and may take flight.

Display availability is determined by member availability: if you are interested in booking a display, please give at least 3 months notice so that we can make proper arrangements and determine if a display can be arranged for your request.

There is no charge for displays. Instead, the Parrot Club of Manitoba graciously accepts donations of any denomination. As a non profit organization, donations contribute to the funding of club activities, education initiatives, and reimburse fosters for any additional expenses incurred (such as medical bills, food expenses, etc.).

What We Don’t Do:

The Parrot Club of Manitoba does not:

  • engage in the buying or selling of parrots

  • maintain a directory of parrot sellers

  • maintain a directory of parrot breeders

Please do not contact us for these reasons.

If you are new to parrots and interested in owning one, we encourage you to come to a meeting as a guest BEFORE getting one, to find out if parrot ownership is right for you!
